SLIDELL POLICE ARRESTED FIVE TEENS FOUND INSIDE A VEHICLE THAT BELONGS TO AN UBER DRIVER WHO WAS SHOT AND CARJACKED. POLICE SAY THE JUVENILES WERE IN POSSESSION OF GUNS. THE CARJACKING AND SHOOTING HAPPENED ALONG NORTH DUPRE. IT WAS ON TUESDAY. TONIGHT, OFFICIALS SAY THE QUICK ARREST LIKELY PREVENTED A MORE SERIOUS CRIME FROM HAPPENING. >> I’VE SAID IT TIME AND TIME AGAIN. IF YOU COME OVER HERE, YOU ARE GOING TO STAY HERE. WE ARE GOING TO CATCH YOU AND PUT YOU IN JAIL. SHAY: SLIDELL’S CHIEF OF POLICE RANDY FANDAL WITH THIS STERN MESSAGE. IT COMES AFTER FIVE TEENS WERE ARRESTED AT JOHN SLIDELL PARK THURSDAY MORNING FOR THEIR ALLEGED ROLE IN SHOOTING AN UBER DRIVER AND TAKING OFF WITH HIS VEHICLE IN NEW ORLEANS EARLIER THIS WEEK. AT LEAST THREE FIREARMS WERE FOUND. FANDEL SAYS HE BELIEVES THE TEENS WERE PREPARING TO COMMIT YET ANOTHER CRIME. >> THEY KNEW THE CAR WAS HOT. THEY WERE PROBABLY LOOKING TO CARJACK SOMEONE IN OUR AREA. SO THANK GOD, WE WERE ABLE TO STOP THEM. SHAY: PEOPLE WHO LIVE IN THE AREA WHERE THE ARRESTS WERE MADE SAY THEY’RE RELIEVED. >> THE FACT THAT THEY CAME AND DID THAT WHERE KIDS PLAY BASKETBALL, IT’S HURTFUL. WHAT IF THEY SHOT ONE OF THOSE KIDS? IT’S NOT OK. SHAY: THREE OF THE TEENS, CRYSTIN MORGAN, EITAN MORGAN AND JASON WASHINGTON, WERE CHARGED WITH ILLEGAL POSSESSION OF STOLEN PROPERTY AND ILLEGAL CARRYING OF WEAPONS, AMONG OTHER CHARGES, AND WILL BE BOOKED IN THE SLIDELL CITY JAIL. THE TWO JUVENILES, BOTH 16, WERE ALSO CHARGED AND SENT TO THE FLORIDA PARISHES JUVENILE DETENTION CENTER. >> THIS REGION HAS A PROBLEM WITH JUVENILES. Authorities arrested a man accused of stealing a vehicle with a baby inside from the parking lot of a Chalmette business Wednesday. Johnathon Perkins, 21, of the 4900 block of Lafaye Street in New Orleans, was booked with theft of motor vehicle, second degree kidnapping, child desertion and illegal possession of stolen property.Investigators say he stole a vehicle with a child inside. Once he realized there was a baby in the car, he allegedly dumped the 1-year-old on the side of the road. This happened 11am Wednesday. The car was stolen outside of a business in the 5300 block of Paris Road in Chalmette. Deputies were able to locate the toddler unharmed and in good health sitting on the side of the road on an Almonaster Boulevard overpass in New Orleans. The vehicle also was found abandoned in New Orleans near the Desire Street overpass, still running with the hazard lights flashing.Officials say during the course of the investigation, detectives with the SBSO Criminal Investigations Bureau were able to identify Perkins through video surveillance evidence and a warrant was issued for his arrest.Perkins was apprehended Thursday, June 30 around 4:30 p.m. near Avon Park Boulevard and Morrison Road in eastern New Orleans by SBSO and State Police.
