In a ridiculously close AFC North, Browns vs. Ravens on “Sunday Night Football” could prove to be one of the biggest games of the season for either of these teams. The Browns are sitting at 6-5 while the Ravens are 7-3, and looking to make headway in pulling away from the Steelers (5-4-1) and Bengals (6-4). For the Browns, this is the first of what amounts to a doubleheader against Baltimore, as they have a bye next week before playing the Ravens in Week 14. This could well be a season-defining stretch for Cleveland.
The Ravens bounced back from a grueling loss to the Dolphins with a grueling win against the Bears. It was a 16-13 affair that saw Andy Dalton nearly break Baltimore’s heart, but the Ravens were able to answer with a touchdown late. Lamar Jackson has been a full participant for the Ravens in practice after missing last week with an injury, so it looks like this game will feature two teams at relatively full strength.
The Browns didn’t win pretty against the Lions last week, eking out a 13-10 win. Nick Chubb was a difference maker with 22 carries for 130 yards (somehow a distant second to Jonathan Taylor for best running back of the day), and his one touchdown reception ended up being the difference. While the Browns have won two of three, their last two games are causes for concern heading into a game with an equally ominous Ravens team.
AFC North primetime showdowns are notoriously scrappy, and this game should be no exception. Both of these teams run the ball extremely well — the Browns are first in the league rushing and the Ravens are fourth — so expect a lot of smashmouth football. Defense will likely be the difference in this game, and Time of Possession will end up being a huge stat to watch as it gets into the third and fourth quarters. The winner of that battle will likely find themselves ahead.
