In the US alone, coaching is a $1.3 billion industry and is projected to continue to grow over time. Investing in a coach for personal growth or to improve a team or organization is highly recommended, but it’s necessary to be aware that not all coaches are the same.
When choosing to invest in a coach, It’s important to consider all aspects, including their credentials, area of expertise, and how they can help achieve your goals. After all, they are there to support you by providing years worth of knowledge and experience in a short period to set you on the right path.
You’ve probably heard of the phrase, “it takes 30 days to form a new habit,” coined by a plastic surgeon, Dr. Maxwell Maltz, in 1960. But mindset coach Vincent Infante is here to tell you that is far from the truth.
If this isn’t new information, you were told misinformation, and chances are, it came from a professional source. Habits vary from person to person, and creating such a drastic change “can happen as quickly as 18 days or as long as 254 days,” Infante informs.
Change is dependent upon many variables, but what it comes down to is you. No one else can make a change on your behalf. A high-quality coach will tell you this and is there to guide and direct you, but ultimately, change comes from within.
“I can’t change anyone. All I can do is provide a perspective, provide love and show them that I’m there for them to teach them things they didn’t know before,” Infante shares.
Vincent Infante, professional coach, public speaker, and founder of Vincent Infante Coaching LLC, has dedicated his career to this. Working with high-performing individuals and teams, he implements a unique hybrid service of therapy, mentoring, and coaching, a holistic approach to lasting individual transformation. The services he offers are 1-1 coaching, mastermind coaching, workshops, seminars, and keynote speaking.
With more than 10 years in the industry and credentials including a Masters in Social Work with a clinical focus and a Strategic Intervention Coaching Certification from Tony Robbins’ RMT program, Infante shares the top five ways to create lasting change in your life:
1. Live With Fulfillment
“Living with fulfillment is living an aligned life,” says Infante, and the first way to achieve this is by removing others’ opinions and replacing them with what you want and what you believe.
If you can learn to make decisions in alignment with you and your life, regardless of what family members, friends, partners, etc may think or say, then you’ve unlocked the first step.
As cliche as it sounds, follow your heart and make decisions from a heart center to gain clarity on your true identity, not the identity you’ve created for others.
2. Show Up Powerfully
Showing up powerfully, as Infante believes, is showing up in the role that you’re committed to.
“If you’re a father, a wife or husband, a CEO, or someone working a nine to five, taking whatever title you’re in and embracing it for everything and showing up as a leader is showing up powerfully,” Infante explains.
When you show up powerfully, you affect yourself and others around you. Whatever your role is, you have to show up to the role you’re committed to and responsible for. Take on the leadership role by doing what needs to be done and inspire others to do the same.
3. Learn How To Regulate And Exercise Emotional Fitness
Easier said than done but extremely beneficial, understanding your emotional response to certain situations or people can help you gain control over the emotions you experience.
“No one can make you angry, it’s impossible,” Infante says. “What makes a person angry is their perception of an exhibited behavior which they translate into an internal trigger.” But once you’re able to remove the individual from the trigger, you can understand why it’s a trigger in the first place.
The more aware you become of your emotions the easier it is to gain control over them.
4. Gain Control Over Your Inner Monologue
In a similar light, gaining control over your emotions also means redefining your inner monologue.
“Language is power,” Infante emphasizes, so it’s necessary to always use positive reinforcements versus negative ones.
“The brain focuses on what you put emphasis on,” he shares, and when you speak something into existence, you’re making it true for yourself. Your subconscious mind is always listening, and the more you enable your negative self talk the deeper you limit yourself.
5. Learn How To Manage Expectations And Navigate Adversity
You must learn to close the gap between expectations and reality because the two are not connected, a common misconception.
When we hold on to expectations, we hold on to the idea that failure is inevitable. But the word FAIL is simply an acronym: First Attempt In Learning.
Take a step back and change the way you perceive a “failed” situation. Ask yourself, “what did I learn at this moment?” and “how can I apply it to my life?”
Nelson Mandela once said “I either win or I learn. I never lose,” a quote Infante incorporates into his coaching and his own life. With this mindset, you set yourself up for endless possibilities and success.
But to see real change occur in your life requires a lot more than simply reading methods and tactics. You have to fully immerse yourself in the process, and an expert coach can help provide that consistency as believed by Tony Robbins.
If you’re “ready to take ownership and accountability and take actions in alignment with changing your life,” Infante says, then it is time to invest in not just yourself, but your future.
Whatever situation you find yourself in, it’s never too late to invest in a coach to help steer you on the right path to create lasting change in your life.
