Born in Fremont, California, Devin Higa has always had a lot of ambition to start his own company and thrive as an entrepreneur. A second-generation Japanese American, Devin is just 18 years old and has already founded Unstoppable Evolvement, a purpose-driven social media marketing agency that is taking the marketing world by storm. However, before becoming one of the youngest success stories in the world of marketing, Devin Higa was just a young athlete looking for ways to compete and channel his lofty ambitions.
A Mobile Upbringing
Many people have had unstable childhoods, but Devin Higa’s life was marked by constant movement and upheaval. Over the course of his educational years, Devin attended nine different schools, at one point living and studying in Puerto Rico. Despite the ostensible lack of stability, Devin Higa persevered and focused on his true passions, which included competitive rock climbing.
First, Devin Higa experimented with rock climbing at his local gym. It was there that Devin was able to join a competitive climbing team. He spent all of his free time climbing, both day and night. Even at the time, Devin knew that climbing was an escape. He didn’t enjoy school, in fact, he resented it. Thus, rock climbing offered Devin an outlet to focus his mind and body on something more enjoyable and, in his mind, worthwhile.
It wasn’t that Devin Higa didn’t like the idea of education, either. He simply did not like how his curriculum was structured. He found that it did not meet his educational needs and, therefore, felt like a waste of time and effort. So, Devin threw himself completely into rock climbing, eventually becoming a coach for the competitive climbing team during his senior year of high school. Knowing that he still yearned to further his education (despite past disappointments), he also enrolled in a special program to begin his secondary education at a local community college.
From Athletics to Video Games
Devin Higa was inspired to become a star athlete through his phenomenal work ethic and talent. He even trained full-time and improved his physical well-being so that he might enlist in the military and qualify for special forces. However, when the COVID-19 pandemic hit, everything changed. Devin realized that he was not ready to enlist in the military. It wasn’t a matter of physical preparation, but of willingness to make the ultimate sacrifice when necessary. At such a young age, it seemed like an incredibly daunting prospect.
Naturally, his declining desire to enter the military and the COVID-19 quarantine pushed Devin’s interests in a completely different direction. Like millions of other Americans, Devin Higa had to find a way to fill the time, so he turned to a trending video game called Valorant. At first, Devin began as one of the lowest-ranked players in the game. However, he quickly developed the desire to play professionally. Over the course of just a few months, he had reached the top 200 players in North America, beating out millions of competitors. This pushed Devin Higa to join a group of like-minded players, which reached the top 100 teams in North America at the height of its success.
The Start of Something New
In spite of the achievements he had made during the quarantine, Devin Higa understood that playing the game all of the time was taking a heavy toll on his mental health. He had begun to show signs of anxiety and depression. Around the same time, the situation was made worse when two of his close family members were diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
As a result, Devin Higa found himself at a very important crossroads in his life. He could give in to depression and hopelessness, or pull himself up and strive to inspire others to become the best possible versions of themselves. Fortunately, he chose the latter path.
Now, Devin is consistently helping others improve their personal and professional brands with enhanced marketing strategies. He is taking his strong work ethic and competitive spirit into the world of marketing, helping brands engage with consumers in new and exciting ways.
